The DPIIT Internship Scheme is a structured internship programme which is run by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) Ministry of Commerce & Industry, to give undergraduate, postgraduate and research scholars practical exposure to the workings of a central government department and its sectoral initiatives. The scheme allows students to select a placement of one, two or three months and offers a standard stipend along with an experience certificate on satisfactory completion. Applications are accepted only through the DPIIT online portal during two fixed windows each year. Selected interns receive mentorship inside appropriate divisions, and placements are matched to discipline-specific requirements such as engineering, management, law, economics, finance, computer science and library management.

Selection journey — how candidates are chosen
All online applications are compiled centrally in the Establishment Division. When a section/division requests interns for a specific discipline, the Establishment Division shares the relevant discipline-specific database with that division. The requesting division then follows a transparent internal selection procedure and finalises candidates with approval from its wing head; offers are issued via Establishment (G) Section after necessary approvals. Applicants should note that selection is discipline-driven and depends on the current requirements of DPIIT divisions.
Documents checklist
Keep these ready before you begin the online form: Aadhaar Number, photo ID, proof of address, DOB proof (10th/12th mark sheet), current qualification proof (enrolment/mark sheet), bank details for stipend payment, and any additional documents requested in the form. Missing documents can delay processing or disqualify an application.
